Master craftsman’s exams in the Republic of Northern Macedonia

Mastery is a special type of post-secondary vocational education. Acquiring the title of master requires successful completion of the master exam for a certain craft activity. Mastery refers to persons who have completed secondary education and relevant work experience in the craft activity for which they want to take a master exam. Upon completion of the master exam, the candidate acquires the title of master for a certain craft activity and training of students and adults. The master exam checks how well the candidates are qualified for quality, independent, independent professional work, for organizing and conducting independent craft activity and for practical training of students. After obtaining a master’s degree, the candidate can transfer their general and professional knowledge, skills and competencies to apprentices and employees. Mastery is the greatest success and achievement for the craftsman. The master exams enable us to advance our professions, to involve employers in the educational process. Also, acquiring the title of master is an advantage over the competition because the master degree emphasizes the excellence and quality of the product and service. The master exam in Northern Macedonia is at the level V sub-level VB and refers to the post-secondary education – master exams, the participants receive a master’s degree. The legislation as a basis on which the master exams are developed in the Republic of Northern Macedonia is:

The candidate for taking the master exam must meet the following conditions: Have completed secondary education for four or three years or secondary education To have at least three years of work experience as a craftsman for the respective craft or 5 years of work experience as an employee in the respective activity The master exam consists of four parts:
practical part,
expert-theoretical part,
management – legal / economic part and
pedagogical-andragogical part.
The practical, professional-theoretical, management legal / economic and pedagogical-andragogical part of the exam are taken in accordance with the examination programs for master exam. The parts of the master exam are taken practically and / or in writing. The practical part, depending on the scope of the practical task, lasts up to eight hours, and if the candidate during the exam performs an examination, realizes a service or creates a product can last up to 40 hours. The professional-theoretical part, the management-legal / economic part and the pedagogical-andragogical part last 120 minutes each. The minimum to pass the exam covers the most necessary knowledge and ability that the candidate should show on the exam. The method of evaluation and the passing threshold for all parts are in accordance with the examination programs for the master exam. Each member of the examination commissions for realization of the practical part performs an individual evaluation. The candidate who has not successfully completed the practical task does not go to her defense and is referred again to take the practical part. The candidate has passed the exam if he / she is positively assessed for all parts of the master exam. The success of the special parts of the master exam is evaluated with, “passed” or “failed”, according to the points system according to the exam programs for the master exam. The Master Exam is taken in accordance with the Program for taking the Master Exam, after receiving a positive opinion from the Minister of Education and Science of RSM, and after the adoption of the Program by the Macedonian Red Cross. The master exam in the Republic of Northern Macedonia is still at the beginning of its development, prepared with a positive opinion from the Ministry of Education and Science are two master exam programs, namely a master exam for a hairdresser piloted in two exam terms and a master exam for a beautician to be piloted within the project MASTER 4.0. The master programs for car mechanic and baker are under construction.
